TACK

One button. One boat. You can't sail into the wind, so you zigzag.

TACK is a top-down sailing race where the zigzag isn't decoration, it's physics. A sailboat can't point straight into the wind, so the only way to a buoy upwind is to tack back and forth across it. Sailing dead downwind is slow too, so you zigzag down as well. One button swings you from one side to the other; your boat trims its own sails. When you press is the whole game.

  • Tack before the rocks. Leave it too late and you're aground.
  • Don't panic-tap. Every tack bleeds speed. Tack three times in a row and you stall head to wind, sails flapping, in irons.
  • Read the wind. It swings back and forth, and the streaks upwind show the next shift coming. Tack when it HEADS you and you come out on a lift: a Perfect Tack keeps all your speed.
  • Hunt the gusts. Dark ripply patches are gusts. Pale glassy water is a lull that slows you down.
  • Race the fleet. Rival boats leave dirty air behind their sails. Stay out of it.

10 hand-made courses, each teaching one idea, with gold, silver and bronze times. A Daily Regatta generated from today's date, the same course for everyone. Your best run comes back as a ghost to race against. At the finish, your whole zigzag glows over the chart next to your best.

I like how the game turns the actual physics of sailing into its main challenge. Having to read the wind and time each tack makes even a simple one-button control feel surprisingly strategic.

and yeahh did u base the sailing mechanics on real world sailing techniques?
