Safe Mode
Your systems die. Your keys don’t.
You’re a maintenance robot trapped inside a failing machine. At the end of every level, one of your own systems goes offline for good: first your dash, then your double jump, then your wall cling, then your jump itself, then your ability to walk left, and finally your body disappears entirely.
But a dead system doesn’t go quiet. Press its key and it fires a weak Residual Signal: a pulse that passes through walls and flips remote relays, opening gates you could never reach.
Your body forgets. Your fingers remember.
How the signals work
- Dash is offline? Shift still pings 6 tiles ahead.
- Double jump gone? Pressing jump in mid-air pings straight up.
- Can’t walk left anymore? You can still signal left. You can’t go back, but you can still reach back.
- Some systems die silent. Wall cling and your body leave no signal at all, so those losses are real.
Features
- 8 short levels, about 10 minutes in total
- A permanent loss each level, with every level designed around what’s left
- Residual Signals: dead keys become long-range switches
- A decaying soundtrack that rebuilds when you reboot
- Instant respawns and generous checkpoints
- Accessibility options: Reduced effects (no flashing or glitch), High contrast, Assist mode (slower game speed, extra jump forgiveness), plus volume and scanline toggles
- Information is never carried by color alone
